Living without your father is hard. I was reminded today how much I miss my father when my oldest son called me to ask me a “dumb” question. Of course for a twenty-year-old man the question wasn’t dumb at all, and I love that he called me to ask it. I knew the answer because I have already faced that problem in my life. I still serve as his guide at times. His call reminded me how important it is to have a father to call when you have dumb questions.
I still have dumb questions.
I would love to tell you that God had taken the place of my father in my life, and in many ways He has been so much more, but I miss asking my dad stupid questions. I miss calling him when the Saints won, singing Hotty Toddy together at Ole Miss games or calling him to say, “I love you dad”. I still need a father!
No one or nothing can take your father’s place in your life; unfortunately, not even God.
There are some things only dads can do, because they have been there and got the t-shirt. There are some questions that only a man can teach his son or daughter. If you are lucky enough that your father is still alive you need to stop now and call your dad.
Tell him you love him.
Some of us feel the pain of being fatherless every day.
I Love You Dad!!!
