An OLd Camaro

Do you ever take a moment to think about the small acts of kindness that can change someone’s life? It’s easy to get caught up in our own problems and forget about the people around us, especially those who are less fortunate. But sometimes, God shows up in the most unexpected ways, reminding us of the power of compassion and love.

One Saturday night, my friend and I were driving around smoking cigars after our kids had gone to sleep. We stopped at a gas station in a rough part of town and watched as a young homeless black couple with two small children walked past us. At the same time, a carload of young girls pulled up in an old Camaro. They were clearly high, but they were also happy and carefree, something that’s rare in this world.

As we watched, one of the girls started eating an ice cream sandwich. Eating is not the proper term; gluttony was the first thing that came to mind. But then something remarkable happened. She noticed the homeless children watching her and something changed. She sprinted into the store and came back with two ice cream sandwiches, one for each of the kids. They hugged her and she got back into the car, and they drove off.

My friend and I were moved to tears by this act of kindness. We couldn’t help but think about how easy it is to judge people based on their appearance or actions. But at that moment, all we saw was love. It didn’t matter that the girls were high, or that the homeless couple had their children out after midnight. All that mattered was that someone showed compassion and kindness to those in need.

It’s so easy to get caught up in our own lives and forget about those around us who are struggling. But if we open our eyes and our hearts, we can see that God is all around us. He shows up in unexpected ways, reminding us to love one another, to show compassion to those who need it most.

So, I ask you, what can you do today to show kindness and compassion to someone in need? It doesn’t have to be a grand gesture, just a small act of love can make all the difference in someone’s life. Let’s all strive to be more like the girl in the old Camaro, and let God’s love shine through us to those around us.
