Encouraging Others to Live a Better Story

Addicted to Busyness-Isolation Kills

Do you live your life isolated? If you are busy you might not see it.

I was sitting with a friend the other day at a coffee shop downtown. My friend had broken his leg while skiing over the holidays and he was walking on crutches. When I asked him what he had learned through the process of recover, he said, “our lives are way too busy”. There is so much wisdom in those words. We are a culture addicted to busyness; we have become agents of chaos.

The chaos is the chatter around us promising us more money, a bigger house, a better sex life, a cool car, fame and fortune. We want it ALL! But with all the striving and reaching for our dreams we pass up what is most important, taking the time to love others.

We have Twitter accounts, Facebook pages, blogs, Pinterest accounts, email, texting and a portable phone hooked to our belts like the world might end and we wouldn’t hear about it. We are so connected, but we are so isolated.

Has anyone told you they loved you this morning?

Has anyone hugged your neck?

Have you told anyone you loved them this morning?

What is it that makes your life worth living really?

LOVE

I have learned from my own personal experience, a life full of chaos is no life at all. Many people thrive in a chaotic atmosphere. It is like an addiction. They carry it everywhere they go, unable to give up the “high” of what they call excitement. Today’s technology is unbelievable. The beauty is we still have free will. I refuse to have a cellphone. I made it through the “paging” days. The day I was told I no longer had to have one, I sent mine to it’s rightful grave in the curve of the 1-20 West exit from 55-South! I will not be further tormented by those who “feel the need for speed” and leave 5 messages because I didn’t answer the phone “when I tried and tried to call you”!

I’ve lived totally in this world and I literally went mad. Today, I am in this world but by the grace of God, I am not of it. Today, I am rich in ways that fill me until I am overflowing. Today, I have life and peace, even as the world spins chaoticly.

You are such an inspiration Mike. Thank you and God bless.
